A Starter on the Impact of Sexual Assault & Rape: Trauma Memory

Episode 21

One of the reasons that I wanted to host my own podcast was to not only provide a platform for victims and survivors to talk about their sexual assault and rape experiences and their struggles and victories with survival, but also to provide information on what it means to be trauma informed, as well as to provide some education on the basics of neuroscience. This week’s episode is a short informational introduction into the trauma impact of sexual assault and rape, and trauma memory. It is the beginning, steppingstone into future episodes in which we will go deeper into the explanation into the impacts of trauma on the brain, the body, and our memories. The goal is to bring some explanation and relief to you, my listeners who are victims and survivors of rape and sexual assault, for why your memory may seem to you to be stuck in an endless loop. And why, when your rape or sexual assault experience started, you reacted the way you did.

This episode is also for those of you who may not be victims and survivors of interpersonal violence like rape, sexual assault, or domestic violence, but have always wondered about the impact, and why, maybe someone you know, love, work with, care about…seems to have difficulty with coping mechanisms, or when certain topics come up, or who, just out of the blue seem to disconnect, go somewhere else. And this is for law enforcement personnel who have not had any training or education on being trauma informed.

Simply put: this is episode is for everyone.

Remember to do your part to help bring justice to victims and survivors of rape or sexual assault…Start by Believing; because we all know someone whose life has been affected by raped or sexual assault.
